Parkes Special Activation Precinct
Delivering Transmission Infrastructure
The Parkes Special Activation Precinct (SAP), a project of national significance in regional NSW, is a 4,800 hectare development expected to support long-term regional growth and up to 3,000 regional jobs across a range of industries, including agriculture, freight and logistics, manufacturing, energy and resource recovery and transport.
Located approximately 3km west of Parkes, SAPs are dedicated areas identified by the NSW Government to bring together planning and investment to drive jobs and economic activity. Situated at the only junction of Australia’s two rail spines, the Inland Rail and the Trans-Australian Railway, the Parkes SAP will become an inland port, transferring export-ready goods to every major city and freight centre in Australia.
Outcome
Intium successfully delivered the transmission infrastructure for the Parkes Activation Precinct, achieving energisation on time and budget. Resulting in lasting benefits for the regional network and community. Intium’s integrated delivery approach, improved project coordination, mobilisation readiness and operational efficiency.
Stakeholder Collaboration
Intium worked closely with Essential Energy as the client, and Country Powerline Constructions as a local delivery partner, demonstrating its core strength in working in strong collaboration with other parties to deliver on shared goals, including using a local workforce.
Intium’s Scope of Work
Intium played a key role in supporting Essential Energy in the construction of a new section of the high voltage electricity supply network, referred to as the Parkes Activation Precinct High Voltage Supply Project. Including new single circuit 132 kilovolt and dual circuit 132/66kV powerlines between Essential Energy’s new Quorn Park Switching Station, TransGrid’s Parkes 132kV substation and Essential Energy’s new Brolgan 132/11kV Zone Substation.
Intium’s scope included installing transmission poles using its newly purchased specialist fleet and constructing 8.1 kilometres of high voltage sub transmission line.
These works play an important role in strengthening the National Electricity Network, ensuring the local electricity infrastructure meets the current and future needs for the new Parkes SAP, whilst supporting economic development in the region

Through challenging conditions and tight delivery timeframes, Intium demonstrated a highly collaborative and solutions-focused approach on the Parkes Activation Precinct project. Not only did the team successfully return the 66kV feeder to service on schedule, but they also completed additional works that eliminated the need for a planned network recall, allowing the system to return to normal operations two weeks earlier than expected. Thanks to Intium's contribution, all pre-energisation and energisation activities were completed on time, keeping the project on track, on schedule and on budget.
