Intium grows advisory services to tackle the key issues challenging Australia’s renewable energy pipeline

SYDNEY, Australia
, June 2026
Intium, an Australian specialist high voltage infrastructure provider, is expanding its Advisory Services offering by bringing together its technical, commercial and regulatory expertise, to help developers and asset owners navigate complex renewable energy project challenges. These areas are commonly recognised as the key challenges for successful renewable energy project outcomes. Through this integrated approach, Intium is helping clients manage the disproportionate risk associated with grid connection uncertainty.

While grid connection typically accounts for only 10–20% of a project’s capital expenditure, it can contribute to as high as 50% of the total project risk[MR3.1]. Intium’s own market research shows that 75% of surveyed Australian business leaders involved in renewable energy projects say they are not achieving grid connection on time. These delays can affect project timelines and investment decisions, with broader implications for Australia’s clean energy transition.

The early stages of a project are often the most important for assessing viability and bankability, before key decisions are committed and become costly to change. Through its Advisory Services, Intium supports developers and asset owners across the project lifecycle, from project viability through to commissioning, operations and maintenance, helping them make informed, practical and commercially robust decisions. This early and integrated approach can help reduce the downstream impacts that grid connection delays may have on scheduling, costs and projected revenue.

This lifecycle-led approach helps developers and asset owners consider the longer-term implications of early design and commercial decisions, supporting better informed investment decisions before Final Investment Decision and later project stages.

Breaking down industry silos

Intium’s Advisory Services are designed to support risk identification, risk reduction and value engineering from early project viability, concept development, pre-feasibility, feasibility, FID, through to procurement, construction, commissioning and operation. Drawing on technical, commercial and regulatory expertise, Intium’s Advisory Services focus on three important contributors to successful project outcomes

Technical

Supporting buildable solutions informed by practical real-world engineering and delivery experience.

Commercial

Assessing commercial options that balance performance, compliance and cost, and support project bankability and economic feasibility.

Regulatory Navigation

Helping align projects with evolving network requirements and stakeholder expectations to reduce the risk of late-stage rework.

By engaging early and taking a holistic view, we can help developers and asset owners identify and assess practical pathways that balance performance, compliance and cost, which in turn helps projects to progress with greater clarity and confidence.

At a time when many renewable energy projects across Australia are being delayed by over 12 months, we are moving beyond siloed consulting to solve the main hurdles affecting our industry.

We are currently working with customers on projects in NSW and VIC to bring technical, commercial and regulatory considerations together early, helping identify and assess practical pathways toward Financial Investment Decision and successful energisation.

Intium’s Advisory Services team draws on more than 200 years of combined experience and deep knowledge in high-voltage infrastructure, with advice informed by technical, commercial and regulatory considerations, as well as a practical focus on constructability, operability, and maintainability.

Current advisory projects include

Transmission line optimisation

identifying and assessing options to minimise costs and social and environmental impacts for a 25km transmission line route.

Multi-network battery programs

Supporting the pathway from detailed inquiry to connection agreements for BESS projects

Flexible load integration

Identifying innovative tariff strategies and integration methods for industrial loads.

Grid connection strategies

Supporting GPS studies and connection strategy development.

Innovation isn’t just about new technology, it’s about solving existing problems differently.

By embedding our deep engineering and delivery expertise into our Advisory Services offering, we are helping our clients better understand grid connection risk, assess investment decisions, and support more efficient pathways to energisation.

We see this as making informed decisions that can lead to better longer-term outcomes.
